Khadia Rally Janta Curfew

As we all know, the deadly coronavirus infection is spreading across the world and on daily basis, new cases of infections are being reported. The total human death count on account of coronavirus is also on the rise.

Looking at the critical situation across India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a call for ‘Janta Curfew’ i.e. voluntary self isolation from 7.00 am to 9.00 pm on 22nd March 2020.

Along with this announcement, he also requested the citizens that on 22nd March 2020, at 5.00 pm everyone should go to their balconies, windows and clap or bang thalis for 5 minutes as an appreciation for doctors, nurses, and medical support staff who are providing emergency services by risking their own safety as well as for those who are providing essential services such cleaners, delivery boys and others involved in supply-logistics sector.

PM Modi’s call for Janta Curfew received fantastic response as right from the morning of 22nd March 2020 hardly anyone could be seen on the roads or on public places.

As the day progressed the excitement among masses for the ‘5 PM applause’ activity started building up. At some places this activity started much before 5.00 pm. As instructed by PM Modi, the citizens enthusiastically applauded the heroes who are on frontline in fight against corona virus.

But soon, this controlled activity which was supposed to stop after 5 minutes spiralled out of control as people took to streets in large number with various musical instruments like drums and trumpets. In Khadia area of Ahmedabad, the public enthusiasm was so high that 100s of people gathered on the streets with musical instrument and some of them were also holding our National flag. The entire scene looked as if it was some kind of a rally.

It was a sad scene for all those who had exercised restraint throughout the day, as some irresponsible or may be ignorant people took to streets and put themselves into a vulnerable situation.
