Dilip Joshi is one of the actors who is known more by his character name ‘Jethalal’ from ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ than his real name. For the last several years, he has been entertaining people through this TV serial.
Jethalal Champaklal Gada i.e. Dilip Joshi became a part of this show in the year 2008. Since then, he has been working to make people laugh through this character. Even before this show, he has worked in many TV serials and films. But this show made him a household name.
Dilip Joshi started his career as a theater artist. He has done many plays in the famous Prithvi Theater in Mumbai. He started doing theater at the age of 12. Because of this, he had to leave his studies in the middle. He is still regretful about this.
Dilip Joshi stepped on the small screen from the TV serial ‘Kya Baat Hai’. After that he worked in serials like ‘Daal Mein Kala’, ‘Hum Sab Baraati’, ‘Do Aur Do Paanch’, ‘F.I. R.’ and many others.
Along with this, he has also worked in many films with Bollywood stars like Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan. Talking about films, he has also worked in films like ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’, ‘Fir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’, ‘Humraaz’, ‘Dil Hai Tumhaara’, but the popularity that his character Jethalal got is unmatched.
Despite working in many films and serials, Dilip Joshi has struggled a lot in his career. There was a time when he had no work for 1.5 years. Meanwhile, in the year 2008, the makers of the show ‘Tarak Mehta’ approached him for an audition.
He was first selected for the role of Champaklal, but Dilip Joshi said that he can try for the role of Jethalal rather than Champaklal. He then auditioned and played the character of Jethalal with such a finesse that till today he is playing that role.
The best part is that even today the audience is not bored with this character. He has been making people laugh for almost 12 years now.
This show of Dilip Joshi is the longest running show in the history of Indian TV. He has also won many awards for this show.
According to media reports, he charges Rs 1.50 lakhs per episode. Dilip Joshi aka Jethalal, thank you for making us laugh for so many years.
